September was a haze.
How can you find light in the dark? Sometimes you don't. But you know what I really, really believe in? I think you can always, always create it.

"Where flowers bloom, so does hope."
Lady Bird Johnson
Waking up, book. Coffee and breakfast, going back to bed, book. A shower, refilling the water canteen, bed, book. A nap, book. Do I exercise today? Hmm, maybe tomorrow. Book.
Mornings. There was a time when I wake up at five in the morning, all ready to go before six. I'd then catch up on sleep for an hour and a half while in commute on the way to work. Before eight, I'd already be on my office desk, drinking my coffee with buttered toast maybe still in hand. I'd sit there, working, until there's a meeting or a client I needed to go to.
I like cleaning, it relaxes me. The dusting, the sweeping, mopping, the organizing, the scrubbing, but I was never a fan of folding clothes (nor washing the dishes—but maybe because we're six in the family and we eat for 12).
I turned 30 this year and to be honest, I have so many drafts of writeups for it. It's supposed to be a big year—closing my 20's and welcoming a new decade. And it still is; I just did it differently than planned and I think it turned out way better than the original. I learned so many things during the lockdown like what my mom really looks like closely at 53, what I like to do next, how to bike, how to kill it at home workouts, what I need to unlearn, how to reorganize my priority list, how to read chick lit and watch romcoms in a different light, and most importantly, how to have fun.
Here are my 30 random things this 2020, more on notes to self. I simplified it so there's a chance we could talk about it in depth if you like!
- Being busy is not equivalent to being productive. One of my favorite quotes from Francis Chan says, "Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter."
- To fulfill dreams, break it down into yearly goals and monthly actions.
- There's wisdom in recognizing when to let go, when to stay, and when to move.
- Making time is
importantessential. But, there comes a point when you should level your effort to the level offered to you. - A blank wall encourages new ideas. So does the ceiling.
- I am enough as I am. When I embrace this truth, I apply it to others.
- Wealth is not just about financial wealth. True wealth covers the quality of my life, the people in it, and my mental and physical health.
- Anger is normal, but when prolonged and held on to, becomes a very tiring emotion.
- I can dabble on different things and do them just because they're fun and without the pressure of making them profitable.
- People show up when they care, and a lot of people need to feel cared for so don't ever hesitate to say hi or greet them a happy birthday.
- I can read the same book, hear the same song, and visit the same place and experience it as a different person. Perspective grows as you do.
- How to simplify life: declutter/clean/turn off the noise, recognize what I have, plan, act, analyze, tweak, evaluate.
- Social media means nothing. Likes and followers don't equate to value or status. But it's fun and you can make meaningful connections through it.
- The same challenge will arise one way or the other if I don't face and overcome it.
- Being single in my 20's has allowed me to create a version of me that I'm proud to call 30. (I haven't said this before but when I was 14, my dad made me promise not to have a boyfriend until I'm 30. 😜 LOL I'm such a good kid.)
- No better place to be on lockdown but with my family and dogs at home.
- I love my life—the highs, the lows, and the in-between.
- I'd rather hear the truth than be protected from being hurt. I've been hurt a lot of times, I can take it.
- My 30's excite me. It's a decade of moving and a lot of first times.
- I can learn anything if I just focus and make time for it. I am my own limit.
- You give less fucks at things that don't really matter as you grow up and age ie. other people's opinions of you.
- I can forgive someone who has wronged me, but it doesn't mean I'll keep him/her in my life.
- I think the purpose of prayer is to change me and strengthen my faith more than it being a wish list to God.
- When you give yourself—your true, unpretentious self—you draw people in.
- Giving always bears fruit. It makes me happier and more grateful.
- I wouldn't be who and where I am today if I didn't go through a quarter-life crisis that made me figure out what I want and don't want.
- What I have can't provide me security. I shouldn't put my trust on it.
- Expressing what I think or feel is healthy, unless its unkind, then I should throw it out the bin.
- I really don't need much material things.
- If my future doesn't really work out the way I see it, then there's a better plan for me.
Do you have a list too? Share! I'd love to see it. 😊
Here's to a hopeful 2021!
Well, this wasn't expected at all.
How I Lost 7.5 Kilos in 15 Weeks (March-July) / All Out August / Monthly Challenges (September-December) / Monthly Challenges (January to May 2021)
It seems so trivial to be writing about this when everywhere in the world is chaotic. I decided to limit my consumption of news early on, trying to learn only the facts and not dwell on the negativity around it. I did try to absorb a lot before and when I realized I was having short breaths afterwards, I stopped. I deleted the Facebook app too to stop the mindless scrolling and the overwhelming info from too many voices. I needed to distance. I've been trying to keep a healthy balance since then.
It has been 73 days since I started my own quarantine, isolation, or lockdown, whatever you may call it. A quarter is about to end once again just like that... and not just like that. Days for me are long yet fast... One day I looked at the desk calendar and it was only March, then it's like I just blinked and looked at it again and it has already been 3 months. A lot has happened and a lot is still happening. Our country is still in community quarantine, and I don't think it will be lifted soon (and not a very good idea to do so). But here are 11 ways I've taken so far in order to cope with this lockdown, hopefully it may help someone.
Well, there you go. Almost a month since the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila and our region and I got bored with my new routine. 😜 Thankfully I got a cute guinea pig I can break it with. It's in two parts (for now). We'll add more in the coming days (only if we feel like it).
THANK YOU, 2018!
2018 was a blast! One of my best years yet! Here's a little recap of where it got me!
I'm honestly in awe of how things roll out not according to plan. Seriously. I only planned one sure trip this year but He didn't stop there. He led me back to the Netherlands, made me see the Eiffel Tower twice. He made me experience the train rides in between Germany and Austria which have left my soul filled. He led me back to Indonesia for the third time when I saw a new part of it. We made it to Calaguas Island for a much-needed girl time with friends. He brought me back in summer and made me see how gorgeous a European summer is and how I found home in Amsterdam. He made me fell in love with the beauty and ruggedness of Iceland and I'm eternally grateful to have seen the aurora borealis dance before me. Lastly, He brought me in Bangkok for the first time where I finally experienced eating pad thai in the floating market. I'm blessed with all the adventures and memories this year has brought, together with the people it has led me to. So much gratitude for this year. Can't wait for what 2019 has to offer!
BRING IT ON, 2019!
Hello, I'm Ira.
There are three things that have become constant in my life so far: my love for taking photos, my penchant for traveling, and my utter need for writing. Welcome to my little notebook of dreams and daydreams.
