europe: munich, germany

Munich – my escape after work in Paris. I didn’t plan much on things to do in this city, I just really wanted to see the Neuschwanstein Castle! And as my itinerary revolved on visiting Germany and Austria, I chose the closest cities to one another.

But the city made my stay so memorable. I experienced my first snowfall in Marienplatz. I was in the middle of the square when it started – tiny flurries falling off the night sky. It got thicker and heavier until I had to run for cover. The tropical kid in me was so happy, I didn’t mind that it was too cold nor that my jacket was truly soaked. Some things you never forget.

Flights
Booked directly on Eurowings from Paris CDG to Munich. It flies from the old Terminal 1 from Charles de Gaulle to the efficient and wide-spaced Munich airport.

Transportation
From the airport, I took the train going to the city center (around EUR13 for a day pass until 12MN if I remember correctly). It took me an hour to get to my hostel.

Fares are generally expensive in the city.

Accommodation
Booked a bed in a female dorm room at Smart Stay Hostel Munich City through Agoda. Good location as it is just across the Goetheplatz train station. The room though was dim, and some of my roommates experienced bedbugs so I’m not exactly thrilled to recommend it.

Walking Tours
I booked a walking tour online with Sandeman’s, of course! Since I was satisfied with the tours I had with them in Barcelona, I decided to do their German version. This time, it was an American tour guide named Jake (yes, all jokes were on him :D). His tour was certainly not boring! It was a big group of around 15 people and it took about 4 hours of exploring the city.

The Food
I didn’t enjoy food much during this trip cos I was always on-the-go, but one thing that really stuck to mind is the tiramisu krapfen from a pastry shop called Rischart. Don’t forget your dose of cappuccino too!
